Finland will have to give up peat energy in the near future due to the environmental and climate impacts that its production and use cause. This will, however, not be possible as long as peat energy will continue to be framed as a specifically national energy policy concern. This research projects looks at the examples of other energy-dependent EU countries that have or are in the process of giving up peat energy. In addition, it seeks to understand the perspectives and experiences of those for whom peat is a livelihood and identity.
