Over 50 % of Finnish mires are drained for enhancing forest growth. Recently, the focus has been shifted towards mire restorations, but their effects on aquatic ecosystems remain unknown. In this project, we assess the effects of peatland restorations on stream ecosystems. The results of the project will increase the knowledge of the importance of different restoration measures in recovery of freshwater ecosystems and contribute to the development of ecologically sustainable forestry in peatlands.
