Leveraging cryptophyte metabolism to turn wastestreams into valuable bioproductsThe purpose of this project is to study species of algae what could be used to replace wild fish as an ingredient in animal feed and as an ingredient in dietary supplements, helping to reduce overfishing. These cryptophytes can be grown in industrial side-stream waters according to circular economy principles, using a zero-waste and carbon neutral approach. This would improve the resource efficiency of industrial precesses, reduce the costs of water treatment and in the end the nutrient loading of natural water bodies.
