Dynamic people, dynamic forests: analysis of recreational use and movement in Helsinki?s urban forestsThe aims of this study are: 1) to gain further knowledge of what factors influence human spatial behaviour (physical movement and route choice) inside the urban forest and 2) how these factors can be managed to reduce the level of wear spatially. More specifically, the research aims to: 1) develop a participatory method for data collection using mobile phone GPS tracking and motivation questionnaires; and 2) outline implications for urban forest planning and management. The research presents a pilot case study in Helsinki Central Park (Keskuspuisto) to demonstrate the practical application of this methodology.
