A record-breaking 494 applications arrived for the general grant call

The general grant call for the year 2024 broke the record in the number of applications. There was growth across all application categories.

The Nessling Foundation’s general funding call for 2024 ended on August 30, and by the deadline, the foundation received a staggering 494 applications. The previous record is from 2022, when we received 407 applications. The applications of 2024 were distributed across different categories as follows:

  • 226 applications for doctoral thesis grants
  • 103 applications for postdoc research grants
  • 165 applications for science-based action projects

The most significant growth was in the number of applications for science-based action projects. We updated the criteria for this third category in the spring of 2024. “We are pleased that the information about the updated application category reached a wide range of applicants,” says Katja Bargum, the foundation’s Science and Excecutive Director.

The governing board of the Nessling Foundation decides on the awarding of grants on the basis of an expert committee’s proposal. We explain our entire evaluation process in the article How does Nessling Foundation select projects for funding?

We will publish the 2024 grant recipients on our website on 18 November. Applicants will also be notified of the decision by e-mail.

We do not provide written feedback on the application decisions, but we offer feedback by phone in separately booked sessions after the decisions have been published. We open the booking calendar for feedback sessions on our website at the same time as we publish the projects that will receive funding.

Thank you to all our applicants!
